🥎 Jayhawks Score Seven in Fourth to Defeat UTA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kansas softball (5-4) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to defeat UT Arlington, 10-8, on Sunday morning at the 2021 UTSA Classic. Sydnee Ramsey and Morgyn Wynne each had multi-run home runs with Ramsey blasting a two-run homer in the third before Wynne sent one over the right-field fence for a three-run homer in the fourth. KU finished the game with six hits and eight RBI. The win capped off a 4-1 weekend for the Jayhawks in tournament play. Sunday’s game was quiet on both sides for the first two innings of play. ⚾ Jayhawks Storm Back to Beat FGCU, 5-3

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kansas Jayhawks came from behind to beat the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, 5-3, on Friday night at Swanson Stadium. Right-hander Ryan Cyr got the starting nod for the Jayhawks and turned in a strong performance for the second straight Friday. He pitched seven innings, striking out four and giving up two runs –one earned – while not walking any batters. He improved to 2-0 on the season in two starts. Jonah Ulane pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season. The win moved Kansas to 3-1 on the young season. The Jayhawks continued their streak of striking first by scoring in the first inning for the third game in a row. A one-out walk by Dylan Ditzenberger gave the Jayhawks a base runner in the bottom of the first and the Jayhawks’ hottest player stepped up to the plate in Nolan Metcalf. Metcalf, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, wasted no time and doubled to right center to score Ditzenberger.

🏀 Lightfoot and Teahan Returning for the 2021-22 Season

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s basketball head coach Bill Self announced today that seniors Mitch Lightfoot and Chris Teahan will be returning for the 2021-22 season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA announced in October that winter sport student-athletes who compete during 2020-21 in Division I will receive both an additional season of competition and an additional year in which to complete it. Lightfoot will be retuning for his sixth season in the KU program as he was a redshirt in 2019-20. “This year, given all the challenges with COVID-19 and what else has been going on, it was the best interest for myself to come back for a sixth year and get the most out of my time at KU,” Lightfoot said. “One of the words of wisdom Coach (Bill) Self had for me was, ‘Everyone is in a hurry to grow up and it should be the other way around. We should stay young and get the most out of it.’ I took that to heart and am looking to do just that.”
