The pandemic was godsent for online gaming companies in India. The fledgling industry’s fortunes rose as millions of people forced to sit at home got hooked to their devices. Online gaming was a convenient source of distraction and, in some cases, also a way to make some money. The outlook for the industry was encouraging. A March 2020 report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry and EY said online gaming grew 40% in 2019 to reach Rs 6,500 crore in revenue.
