Infinera, American Tower demo point-to-multipoint optical

Infinera, American Tower demo point-to-multipoint optical Sign in with LinkedIn 16 March 2021 | Natalie Bannerman Infinera and American Tower have completed the first point-to-multipoint coherent optical transmission in a carrier network environment in Latin America. Using Infinera’s XR optics technology the field trial was carried out over American Tower’s Passive Optical Network (PON) network in Colombia. As such it successfully showed the compatibility of Infinera’s XR optics with existing Gigabit PON (GPON) traffic over a single-fibre PON deployment in a metro regional area. “As American Tower is evolving its network in preparation of new Edge Data Center and 5G applications, we are always looking for innovative technologies to help us achieve greater value on our existing infrastructure,” said Paul Choiseul, fiber CTO EMEA & Latin America at American Tower.

Infinera and American Tower Complete Live Network Demonstration of First Point-to-Multipoint Coherent Optical Transmission in Latin America

Mar 15, 2021 SAN JOSE, Calif., March 15, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) and American Tower announced today the successful completion of the first point-to-multipoint coherent optical transmission in a carrier network environment in Latin America. This field trial was conducted with Infinera’s XR optics technology over American Tower’s Passive Optical Network (PON) network in Colombia. The trial demonstrated XR optics’ compatibility with existing Gigabit PON (GPON) traffic over a single-fiber PON deployment in a metro regional area. The proof of concept shows American Tower’s ability to take advantage of the transformative value that XR optics can provide in the company’s existing network infrastructure. With over 400Gb of available capacity per leaf, XR optics is designed to enable network operators like American Tower to dramatically simplify their network architectures and significantly reduce CapEx and OpEx costs while enhancing network scalability. American Tower: Neutral host most efficient for edge deployments

Mar 2, 2021 5:57pm The edge won t only be a U.S. phenomenon, says American Tower s Igor Khislavsky. (Getty Images) American Tower is pursuing edge opportunities with the view that a neutral host model, similar to towers for terrestrial wireless networks, is going to be the most efficient method for edge deployments. The company has performed trials and had conversations with multiple stakeholders as part of internal initiatives to figure out how to make its tower sites the preferred location for what American Tower expects to be micro edge data center facilities, according to Igor Khislavsky, VP of Investor Relations. “Our thesis is that neutral host that brings together multiple cloud players and multiple carriers in one location is going to be the most efficient way to deploy the edge over the long term,” Khislavsky said, speaking Tuesday at a Raymond James investor event.
