The first one is the QX-1 micro-UAV; the quadcopter basically carries a payload of 0.5 kilograms and the platform weighs 3 kilograms. The QX-2 mini-UAV is a much bigger platform and can carry a 1.5-kilogram payload,” Mohamed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the senior business development manager with the manufacturer, told Defense News.
On opening day, the UAE armed forces signed 19 defense contracts, with the larger part going to domestic companies. “Worth $1.37 billion, 22% of the deals were signed with seven international firms while 78% went to 12 local companies,” Staff Brig. Gen. Mohammed Al Hassani, official spokesman for IDEX and NAVDEX, said in a press briefing.

The IDEX 2021 defense conference has opened its doors to trade exhibitors and visitors Feb. 21-25. (Agnes Helou/Staff) ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates Swedish firm Saab will launch research and development efforts for sensor technology in the United Arab Emirates under multiple agreements it signed Sunday at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi. Saab will also participate in the educational program Sustain and Enhance Emiratization in Defence and Security, or SEEDS, as part of the agreements it signed with the Tawazun Economic Council and the Tawazun Technology and Innovation business. The council is an organization focused on the defense and security industry, and is charged with developing a locally sustainable sector.
