Police investigate Friday shooting in MeridenÂ

MERIDEN â Police are investigating a shooting on Friday afternoon that left one person injured.Â
Around 4:27 p.m., the police department received several reports of gunshots near Lewis Avenue and Springdale Avenue. While police were investigating the area, MidState Medical Center reported a man with several gunshot wounds.Â
The name of the man has not been released. He was later transferred to Hartford Hospital. Police say the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.Â

SOUTHINGTON â The committee behind the townâs first organized Pride Week is finalizing a schedule of events to be hosted virtually and at local businesses, churches and civic organizations.
âThere is a need for it and a recognition that as a community this is going to be a wonderful event for people to come together,â said Mitchell Oliva, a member of Southington Pride Inc., the organization planning the events for the last week of May and the first week of June.

Meriden woman sentenced to five years in prison for armed robbery, assault

MERIDENÂ â A woman was sentenced to five years in prison this week after she pleaded guilty to robbing a grocery store in 2018.
Keishla Garcia-Hernandez, 30, of 148 Hobart St., pleaded guilty in January 2020 to first-degree assault and first-degree robbery. She was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years, suspended after five years in prison, followed by five yearsâ probation.Â
Angel Rodriguez, 51, of 148 Hobart St., Meriden, was arrested in the same incident on charges including first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon. Rodriguez, who has not entered a plea, is held on $200,000 bond. His case is currently on the trial list.Â

Southington man pleads not guilty to federal child porn charge

SOUTHINGTON â A town man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography, officials said Friday.Â
Richard E. Smith, 65, of Southington, entered his plea on Thursday during a video conference  appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in federal court in New Haven, according to a statement released by officials from the U.S. Attorneyâs Office in New Haven.
A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted Smith on a single charge of possession of child pornography on March 29, officials said. Authorities allege he had millions of child pornography images and videos on his computer.
