LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Several hundred people took to the streets in the Westwood area to demonstrate their support of Palestinians amid the ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The Saturday demonstration was dubbed ``Nakba 73: Resistance Until Liberation and took place on Wilshire Boulevard at the Federal Building.
Organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, it was one of several events around the United States Saturday on the sixth day of fighting between Israelis and Palestinians along the Gaza strip, with at least 26 deaths reported.
Nakba commemorates the date in 1948 when ``over half of the Palestinian population was displaced from their homelands for the establishment of Israel, organizers said.

LOS ANGELES - Several hundred people took to the streets in the Westwood area Saturday to demonstrate in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The demonstration was dubbed Nakba 73: Resistance Until Liberation and took place on Wilshire Boulevard at the Federal Building.
Organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, it was one of several events scheduled around the United States on Saturday. Organizers said Nakba commemorates the date in 1948 when over half of the Palestinian population was displaced from their homelands for the establishment of Israel.
One day after some 200 protesters gathered outside the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles protesting against Israel’s actions in Shiekh Jarrah, Jerusalem and Gaza, pro-Israel supporters took to the streets for their own rally.
Around 300 hundred pro-Israel supporters gathered the Federal Building in West Los Angeles holding Israeli flags and signs that read, “We Stand by Israel.”

Many members of the Israeli community as well as American Jews answered a call sent out by the Israeli-American Council (IAC) and arrived at the Federal building at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Gaylord Wilshire was a land speculator, billboard tycoon, failed politician and inventor. He built Wilshire Boulevard, a street that became LA’s primary escape route from the horse-drawn era.
