Join renowned artists Roy Sakuma, Herb Ohta, Jake Shimabukuro and more through a virtual livestream from Ala Moana Hotel on the official festival YouTube channel. In addition to listening to more than 15 artists from Hawai‘i and abroad share their music and passion for ‘ukulele, enjoy a special performance by more than 100 keiki who have been practicing all year long from home. The festival is free but a $10 donation is suggested; proceeds will go to a college scholarship program. HSJ NEWS RELEASE: HAWAII TASK FORCE RECOMMENDS PLAN OF ACTION FOR IMPROVING LAWYER WELL-BEING

The task was formed in May 2019 by Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald in response to a National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being report entitled, “The Path to Lawyer Well-Being: Practical Recommendations for Positive Change.”
The Hawaii Task Force was asked “to review the recommendations of the National Task Force on how to address lawyer well-being issues, assess which recommendations can be implemented to address the unique needs of Hawaii’s legal community, and recommend how those proposals can best be implemented.”

The institute brings an outstanding cadre of speakers to the leadership gatherings, including distinguished judges and attorneys who share their insights, experiences and values that enabled them to achieve their personal and professional goals.
The Leadership Institute also provides mentorship for these emerging leaders, helps them segue into leadership positions, offers networking opportunities within the profession, and helps them gain insight into Hawaiʻi’s diverse legal communities.

Courtney Choy grew up going to court with her mother, a court interpreter, when childcare was not available. She would watch the action from the benches at the back of the courtroom, the witness waiting room or the area where jurors waited. As a social worker, her father also regularly worked with the court system.
“I grew up in that environment, and saw how they used their talents and skills to help others, and I felt it was right to lend my voice to that too,” said Choy, who was crowned Miss Hawaii 2021 two days after participating in commencement activities for her juris doctorate diploma from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s William S. Richardson School of Law.
