ROANOKE, Va. – The Colonial Pipeline’s operating at reduced capacity. Even after it’s fully open, which could be as early as Friday night, people will need to be patient as things return to normal.
Panic at the pump is fueling gas prices, already climbing as summer travel nears. Drivers like Kirby Whitfield are paying the price.
“It’s going to be burdensome on the pocket, that’s for sure,” said Whitfield.

Fort Knox Drive-Thru Self-Storage is now open on Williamson Road in Roanoke.
The one-of-a-kind facility used to be home to Happy’s Flea Market, which closed in 2016, but the developer is hoping to keep the spirit of the Star City alive by hosting outdoor flea markets starting next month.
“During Happy’s tenure, there were 400 different vendors and often on any given weekend, there’d be 1,100 shoppers visiting the site. We hope to bring back that excitement, that attention to this area of Williamson Road,” said Jim Cherney, developer.

Roanoke brothers to open city s first distillery since 1909
ROANOKE, Va. – While Roanoke has seen a variety of breweries open shop in recent years, a different alcoholic drink will soon be raising spirits in the Star City.
Brady’s Distillery will be the first to operate within Roanoke since 1909, according to the company.
Brian, Andy and Tim Brady are crafting a variety of spirits, including blended bourbons and whiskeys, rum, gin, vodkas and brandy.
“The idea for a distillery came to us roughly 10 years ago while visiting a distillery in VA. We were completely enamored by the craft. The Botetourt County Republican party has scheduled a primary election on Saturday to choose board of supervisors candidates for the Amsterdam and Buchanan districts.
Amsterdam residents can vote from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lord Botetourt High School. Buchananâs primary is at Buchanan Elementary School from 9 a.m. to noon.
The firehouse primary â so called because it is organized by the local party, instead of elections officials â includes one longtime supervisor, Steve Clinton of Amsterdam. His opponent, Jim Ludington, is in his first race for office.
In Buchanan, Amy Stinnett White is running her first race, though supervisors unanimously appointed her late last year, after then-Supervisor Ray Sloan resigned to return to volunteer firefighting. Whiteâs opponent, Will Smith, has returned to campaigning after an unsuccessful 2009 run against then-19th District Del. Lacey Putney.
