Life magazine, Harvard University historian Arthur M Schlesinger polled 55 historians and asked them to rank the men who had held the presidency from first to last.

Donald Trump has been ranked as the USA s worst president of all time. Schlesinger’s survey found that historians rated Abraham Lincoln, who led the US through the Civil War, the best president of all time. George Washington, the nation’s first president, was ranked number two. The most recent ex-president, Franklin D Roosevelt, came in third thanks to his success steering the country through the Great Depression and World War II, as well as his ambitious New Deal program.
For years, the two political parties held immense political power. They had money (soft dollars) and influence (access to deep-pocketed donors, PAC's and media). They set many of the campaign rules (think things like superdelegates and the presidential primary calendar). But, over the last 20 years, their power has ebbed considerably. Soft money was replaced by SuperPACs whose donors cared not so much about the long-term health of the party, but about their immediate (usually ideological) concerns.

Democrats say that Trump’s months of lies regarding the election he lost including at a rally on the morning of the coup attempt encouraged his supporters to storm the Capitol. Some Republicans have already signaled support, but others say that punishing Trump is a political act that will create further divisions (This comes after they stoked division themselves by parroting Trump’s lies about the election.)
If a majority of House members vote to impeach him (i.e., indict him) as soon as Wednesday, the Senate will then hold a trial that, according to legal experts, can still take place even after Trump leaves office.
