Number of homeless counted in Montgomery County decreases 14%

District of Columbia In this year’s count on Jan. 27, there were 577 homeless people counted in Montgomery County, compared to 670 on Jan. 22, 2020, according to the report.   Seven of the nine jurisdictions had a decrease, with Loudoun County (55%) and the City of Alexandria (49%) at the top of the list. The number of homeless people counted in 2021 increased in Prince George’s and Fairfax counties. This year’s report also found that Montgomery County experienced the second-largest decrease in homeless people reported in four years of the nine jurisdictions. There were 317 fewer homeless people counted this year than in 2017 a decrease of 35%.

As you enter the base on the right side, there is a slumping of soil happening due to water infiltration and bad soil. This slumping is occurring near the road elevation. This area will be excavated in several different steps down the slope and new material placed back. The guardrail will be removed and if asphalt needs to be milled due to undermining, it will be milled and replaced. Guardrail will be placed back in the new soil and the road striped if necessary. The new soil will be hydroseeded to stabilize from any further erosion.

Prince William County Social Justice Committee divided on how to approach issues In the wake of last year’s protest over the killing of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, many localities across the nation put together groups and committees dedicated to addressing the problems of racial and social injustice. Prince William County was no exception. It created a Racial and Social Justice Commission to study the status of social justice in the county and make recommendations on how to address those issues. However, that seems to be a case of easier said than done. Recently, during a Zoom meeting, Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland and Coles District Supervisor Yesli Vega were given to members of the commission to update the community on their progress. The discussion revealed that there’s an existing schism within the commission.
