Mount Rogers Health District moved into Phase 2 of COVID-19 vaccination on April 7, opening up the availability of COVID-19 shots to anyone age 16 or older. “We are overjoyed to make this transition and be able to vaccinate all of our adult population. Vaccination is our best way out of this pandemic and back toward normal life,” said Dr. Karen Shelton, health district director. Mount Rogers includes the City of Galax and Carroll and Grayson counties. “It is important to note that Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for 16- and 17-year-olds,” Shelton said. “Parents of 16- and 17-year-olds should check with the vaccine provider in order to ensure they register in an appropriate clinic. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are both approved for those 18 and older.”

GALAX, Va – COVID-19 impacted the City of Galax in a way city leaders could not have ever imagined just one year ago. But Wednesday the city turned a new page in its fight against the pandemic by hosting its first mass vaccination clinic.
