Ryan Jeffers broke up Tarik Skubal s perfect game in the fifth inning with a home run on Thursday, Miguel Sano tied the game with a 411-footer of his own, and the Twins bunted, blasted and hustled their way out of last place in the AL Central with a 5-3 victory over Detroit at Target Field. It was a lot of fun, said reliever Tyler Duffey, whose role in it lasted 15 pitches and three quick outs. We kind of slammed the door on them.

Replay at 2nd base in 7th inning helps Twins down Tigers
Ryan Jeffers and Miguel Sanó homered and the Minnesota Twins took advantage of a replay reversal to score three runs in the seventh inning, rallying past the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Thursday night.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Ryan Jeffers and Miguel Sanó homered, leading J.A. Happ and the Minnesota Twins over the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Thursday night.
Jeffers’ homer with one out in the fifth inning marked Minnesota’s first runner against Tigers starter Tarik Skubal.
“I consider him one of the best young starting pitchers in baseball,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “He’s very tough. We’re going to see a lot of him going forward. We kind of waited him out.”

MINNEAPOLIS Ryan Jeffers and Miguel Sanó homered, leading J.A. Happ and the Minnesota Twins over the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Thursday night.

Skubal gets off to perfect start
Skubal displayed good command of all his pitches in the early going and recorded five strikeouts in the first four innings.
He used his fastball and slider as his strikeout pitches. Trevor Larnach whiffed on a slider and Jeffers went down swinging at a fastball in the second inning.
Max Kepler fanned on a slider and Gilberto Celestino flailed at a fastball on the outside corner in the third.
Josh Donaldson struck out on a foul tip into Jake Rogers’ glove during the fourth.
Skubal’s dominance continued until one out in the fifth, when Jeffers deposited a 96-MPH fastball just over the left field wall for Minnesota’s first hit.
