WILMINGTON – Chicago will soon be just a plane ride away for local residents as Wilmington International Airport announces American Airlines plans to reinstate a seasonal direct flight.
The nonstop flights to and from Chicago O Hare International Airport (ORD) will run daily May 6 through October 6, according to a release Tuesday. In the heart of the summer season, it will also activate an additional Saturday flight to Chicago that will run later in the morning from June 5 to Sept. 4.
Both American and United Airlines ran seasonal Chicago flights two summers ago, but they didn t offer them last summer due to COVID-19.
“We are excited and thankful that American is reinstating this nonstop service, airport director Julie Wilsey said in a statement. With enhanced safety measures, implemented by ILM airport as well as our travel partners, ILM’s passengers can feel safe flying. We look forward to a strong Summer schedule with nonstop destinations.
Annually, seasonal flights are added to the airport’s schedule to help serve passengers during peak travel times. Last week American Airlines and JetBlue announced a partnership to bring direct flights from ILM to Boston Logan Airport (BOS).

All flight schedules are subject to change, according to airport officials.
“We are excited and thankful that American is reinstating this nonstop service,” Julie Wilsey, airport director, stated. “With enhanced safety measures, implemented by ILM airport as well as our travel partners, ILM’s passengers can feel safe flying.
