Work on the £10.9 million facility, promised to be ‘state of the art’ by NHS officials, will begin this month. But, this week, it was confirmed that permission had been granted for building work to begin on land close to Marshall Road later this month. Construction work is expected to last about a year, with the doors to the new facility scheduled to open to patients next summer. “The new Devizes Health Centre will be a facility the whole community can be proud of and benefit from,” said Dr Andrew Girdher, clinical chair at the Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
A woman who lost half of her stomach in a life-saving emergency operation has complained to the NHS about the medical care she received from her local GP practice in Melksham. Sheila Pickett is upset about the way she was treated by doctors at the Gifford Surgery in Spa Road after first complaining about abdominal problems as far back as October 2019. The 68-year-old lost half of her stomach in March after undergoing a life-saving operation at Bath’s Royal United Hospital. Mrs Pickett, of Woodstock Gardens, said: “On March 7, following two 111 calls, I was rushed to the RUH where an emergency operation was performed in the evening.

The unique project enables live-aboard boaters – who often face healthcare barriers – to get a Covid-19 vaccine and a drop-in clinic space.
