Two former employees at the Tyson processing plant in Wilkesboro recently filed a civil rights discrimination lawsuit against the company.
The complaint alleges that Adrian and Michelle Switzer were repeatedly called racial slurs by a supervisor while on the job. The married couple from Forsyth County is Black and Muslim. The supervisor is a white female.
The Switzers say they were also subjected to religious discrimination and a hostile environment while working at the Wilkesboro plant.
Two former employees at a Tyson chicken plant in North Carolina said they were repeatedly called a racial slur by a team leader during their four years of employment.
The employees â a married couple who are Black and Muslim â accused Tyson Farms Inc. of violating the Civil Rights Act by allowing management to discriminate against employees and retaliate against those who complained of mistreatment. Tyson Farms operates a Tyson Foods chicken processing plant in Wilkesboro, where the couple previously worked.
Lawyers and a representative for Tyson did not immediately respond to McClatchy Newsâ request for comment on Monday. An attorney representing the former employees also did not respond.

A Wilkesboro father is raising questions about how Wilkes County Schools officials handled an incident involving his son, who authorities say was assaulted with a broom handle in a locker room at Wilkes Central High School in April.
Five male Wilkes Central students, ranging in age from 15 to 18, have been charged in the incident involving Jovan Millerâs 15-year-old son. During the incident, a student âshoved a broom handle against the victimâs buttocks,â and another student held him down, according to court documents.

The 18-year-olds were charged with misdemeanor simple assault. Juvenile records are sealed in North Carolina, so itâs unclear what the younger students were charged with.
