On Friday 12th March, the Animal Welfare Bill, under which animal abusers could face up to five years in prison, was passed by the House of Commons. A week later in India, despite Covid-19 restrictions, Hindu Shakti worshippers entered the holy Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple and slaughtered roosters in defiance of a 1968 ban on religious animal sacrifice. I warmly welcome the news that now over 30 million people across the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose

MP for Clwyd South I warmly welcome the news that now over 30 million people across the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose. And have nothing but praise for the NHS staff, Armed Forces personnel and volunteers who are giving such a fantastic service. They deserve an enormous amount of thanks from us all. For that reason too, I warmly welcome the news that the UK Government will be providing an extra £400 million in funding for the NHS in Wales - as a result of the announcement by the Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock, of a further £7 billion for NHS and social care services across the UK. As this funding will come through the Barnett Formula, it will be up to the Welsh Government to decide how to spend it. So, I truly hope the funding is used to benefit Welsh NHS services which need it most, including here in North Wales.

Views sought on new Animal Welfare Bill

Views sought on new Animal Welfare Bill Thu, 11 Mar 2021 Public views are being sought on the proposed Animal Welfare Bill 2021 that aims to protect animals such as cats, dogs and horses from harm and mistreatment. The Bill was drafted following recommendations by a Tynwald Select Committee that in line with the UK regulation was needed to protect companion animals. Currently the Island has laws that protect the welfare of farm livestock and criminalise animal cruelty, but the Committee concluded the welfare of companion animals is not adequately protected. The Bill would also provide greater legal protections to mountain hares. People are encouraged to submit their views during the four week consultation that will close on 5 April 2021.
