Blame it on flour tortillas, but it’s not every week that New York City gets a new burrito let alone a restaurant devoted entirely to their craft. At Electric Burrito, two veterans from East Village cocktail bar Mister Paradise seek to do justice to the somewhat-maligned California burrito, some 2,700 miles from their home city. Their restaurant, located at 81 Saint Marks Place in the East Village, opens for takeout on May 17.

Orlando McCray is a White Claw man. “Truly is trash,” says the head bartender at Nightmoves, a sister bar to natural wine destination The Four Horsemen in Brooklyn, New York. “There are faux artisanal brands I have given a chance, but they’re not good.”
In 2020, “when things got real dark,” says McCray, the appeal of easy-drinking, no-thinking hard seltzers was even stronger for him and his hospitality comrades-in-arms.
“What’s funny is that I turned our wine director, Justin Chearno, onto hard seltzer as well, and as soon as I turned a natural wine person, I knew I was onto something,” he says.

A common sight along the walls of Italian steakhouses are signed photographs of the various celebrities who have dined at these establishments. One popular version of this trope that frequently circulates on social media involves actor Brendan Fraser and the seemingly odd note he left at one restaurant, stating “I like the steak! It was my favorite part I was in the Mummy.”
While Fraser was in “The Mummy,” and while it wouldn’t be unusual for a main course to be someone’s favorite part of a meal, this is not a genuine autograph from the actor.
This fauxtograph was on display at a bar in New York City called Mister Paradise. The image first went viral in 2019 after someone saw this framed picture at Mister Paradise, presumed it was real, and then shared it on social media. Shortly afterward, Will Wyatt, the owner of the bar, clarified to Mel Magazine that this was not a genuine autograph from Fraser.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A national LGBTQ advocacy group released its annual scorecards for 506 cities across the nation on their local equality efforts in policies, laws and services. This assessment included Clarksville, which scored a 17 out of 100.
The Human Rights Campaign created the Municipal Equality Index, or MEI, in 2011 to examine how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are of LGBTQ people who live and work there.
Comparatively, the average score for cities in Tennessee was 36 out of the eight cities evaluated. Murfreesboro scored a 12, Franklin scored a 19, and Nashville scored the highest with 78 points.
The city responds
The MEI rates cities based on their nondiscrimination policies, the city as an employer, efforts of the city to include LGBTQ residents in city services and programs, the fairness of law enforcement regarding LGBTQ people, and city leadership’s public position on LGBTQ equality.
