Van Gisbergen gaps field with record pole lap Repco Supercars Championship By James Pavey
Shane van Gisbergen has continued his dominant march in 2021 with a dominant performance in Beaurepaires Tasmania SuperSprint Race 6 qualifying.
The all-new knockout qualifying format did little to throw van Gisbergen off piste, with the Red Bull Ampol Racing driver gapping the field at Symmons Plains.
The championship leader, who has won all five races so far this season, put a whopping 0.3325s on Tickford Racing’s Cameron Waters to claim a fourth ARMOR All Pole Position in 2021.
Van Gisbergen’s 50.4923s dipped below Craig Lowndes’ 50.5790s qualifying record set back in 2018.

Tony D’Alberto is to return to Dick Johnson Racing in a co-driver role for a sixth successive Supercars Championship season.
The 35-year-old first lined up alongside Scott Pye for the enduro events back in 2016 and spent the last four seasons running alongside Fabian Coulthard – with the pair taking a third place finish at Bathurst back in 2017.
Despite the split with Penske over the winter, and the fact that the Ford team has brought in a completely new driver line-up for the 2021 campaign, D’Alberto will remain in place for the Bathurst 1000.
The TCR Australia front-runner is likely to partner Anton De Pasquale, with Scott McLaughlin due to make a return for the biggest race on the calendar alongside Will Davison.
