Hamilton s Best of NXT in PROGRESS: Volume 1 Report (10 03 20)

Hamilton’s Best of NXT in PROGRESS: Volume 1 Report (10.03.20)   There’s a lot to be said when – after months, if not years of hand wringing over the appearance of the British indies on the WWE Network… the eventual arrival was met with virtual silence. After several shows, PROGRESS’ appearances ended up switching to a myriad of “best of” compilations, with over a dozen of them up at time of writing. I guess that’s what happens when a lot of your recent back catalog suddenly has a whole lot of persona non-grata in them. These are old reviews, and while I’ve not updated names (so you’re reading about Prince Devitt, not Finn Balor…) but I’ve done my best to remove mentions of people here who are on that suspected persona non-grata list…

Steven Davis makes 300th appearance for Rangers

Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis made his 300 th appearance for Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers FC at the weekend. Davis was unable to celebrate the milestone with a win as Steven Gerrard’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Motherwell. The runaway leaders, who are still 21 points ahead of nearest challengers Celtic at the top of the table, had to come from behind at Fir Park to clinch a point with Davis again the stand-out player in the heart of the Rangers midfield.  Prior to Sunday’s draw Gerrard had heaped praise on Davis reaching 300 games for the club: “I knew he was a top professional, a competitor and a wonderful footballer.

Johnson gives injury and wellness update ahead of Hull

Hull welcomed to Wearside

Sunderland continue our Sky Bet League One campaign this Saturday (7:45pm), as Hull City visit Wearside for the Stadium of Light’s first contest of 2021. The match sees Lee Johnson’s Lads take on Grant McCann’s second-placed Tigers side, in a league fixture rearranged from Boxing Day due to Covid-19 issues. It represents a chance for Sunderland to move closer or even into the top six depending on results around the grounds, with several League One clubs involved in Emirates FA Cup action over the weekend. Form Guide The Lads have played just 18 league games this season, and are unbeaten in three in the league albeit with successive draws, including last weekend’s goalless encounter at Northampton Town. Hull ended a run of three straight defeats last Saturday, defeating Charlton Athletic 2-0. Despite struggling for form in recent weeks, McCann’s visitors have hit 21 goals on their travels, which have maintained their current top-two berth.

Sunderland 1-1 Wimbledon

This may not have resulted in the victory Sunderland wanted at the Stadium of Light. Yet this was no ordinary day on Wearside. Even though Bailey Wright struck his second goal of the season with the sweetest of volleys just after the hour, the Black Cats had to settle for a point having fallen behind to Joe Pigott’s penalty three minutes before the break. Given the amount of possession Sunderland enjoyed over the course of the match, they should probably have won this but Wimbledon created some fantastic chances to win it too. A point for both teams was the outcome on a day when Sunderland were without eight first team players after a positive case of Covid-19 was recorded in the squad.
