Union wants benefits for janitors working at Milwaukee Tool office

A plan to provide up to $20 million in city financing for Milwaukee Tool s new downtown office, which could have up to 2,000 employees, received its first public approval Thursday. But that was only after a labor organization raised concerns about the lack of a community benefits agreement on wages, benefits and working conditions for janitors and other employees of outside vendors at the future office. The Redevelopment Authority board unanimously recommended approval for the financing plan, which also needs Common Council approval. But those same concerns likely will surface at the proposal s next public hearing. That could be at the council s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee on April 27.

March 20, 2021: Milwaukee Solidarity Picket For Alabama Amazon Workers! | Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement

On Feb 8, 2021 approximately 6,000 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama began voting by mail on whether to be represented by the Retail, Wholesale Department Store Workers Union (RWDSU). The voting period ends on March 29. The harsh working conditions at Amazon warehouses, along with Amazon’s refusal to adopt measures that protect workers from COVID 19, have pushed Amazon and Whole Foods workers everywhere to step up organizing to fight back. These predominantly Black workers who have in recent months formed the BAmazon Workers Union, are on the cusp of launching a history-changing workers’ organization against one of the biggest and most powerful transnational corporations in the world, and its super rich union busting owner, Jeff Bezos. In addition, these workers are standing up to the racist, anti-union laws that suppress labor across the South.
