Blossom and all it heralds for spring will be celebrated in Staploe this weekend - when two of its gardens open under the National Garden Scheme.
Visitors are due be treated to vivid displays of flowers from a choice collection of ornamental and edible cherry trees at Old Farm Cottage.

Nearby at Falling Water House fruit trees in the kitchen garden are already in flower too.

Pomp & Circumstance faces an uncertain summer
A new MTA project to make the Lorimer Street-Metropolitan Avenue L and G train stop ADA accessible is threatening the future of Williamsburg Mediterranean restaurant Pomp & Circumstance, located near the corner of Lorimer Street and Metropolitan Avenue, Greenpointers reports.
Owner Melissa Morales is in favor of the accessibility improvements which includes the addition of an elevator and a new staircase entrance to the station but wants the project to be delayed to later this year so the restaurant doesn’t completely lose its outdoor seating. Construction is set to get underway May 1, and Morales tells Greenpointers that the lack of outdoor seating will come as a crushing blow for a restaurant that has largely survived the pandemic like many others across the city on outdoor dining. For veteran restaurant workers Elizabeth Meltz, Erin Fairbanks and Liz Murray, the Me Too movement sparked a desire to start talking openly about issues affecting women working in the hospitality industry.
In 2017, the trio invited their peers to discuss issues from mental health and lack of mentorship to wage equity and safe workplaces. Those conversations led to a more formal organization, Women in Hospitality United, an advocacy group that includes Murray (the director of human resources for culinary agency The Marlow Collective) and restaurant executive Kutina Ruhumbika on its board of directors.
