Up to 91.58% of the national population are expected to join health insurance in 2021, according to the Vietnam Social Security (VSS).
The sector also aims to raise the rates of labourers participating in social insurance from 32.7% to 35.2%, and unemployment insurance from 27% to 28.5%.
To that end, the sector will continue with administrative reform and information-technology application, as well as artificial intelligence to better serve people and businesses.
It will also revamp the communications work to raise public awareness of social insurance, while intensifying inspections over social and health insurance payment of enterprises.
At a recent meeting of the Vietnam National Committee on Ageing (VNCA), VSS Deputy General Director Tran Dinh Lieu said Vietnam aims to provide social insurance coverage for all elderly people nationwide by 2021.

Preparations underway for upcoming elections
Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18.
It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work.
As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed.
Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Meanwhile, election committees have been set up swiftly in localities.

In Vietnam, women live up to 77.1 years but spend 11 being sick while men spend eight of their 74.4 years ill.
Nguyen Hong Quan, chairman of the Vietnam Association for Community Health Education, said the average life expectancy of Vietnamese is higher than that of many countries with the same per capita income, but their health is weaker.
The latest data provided by the General Statistics Office (GSO) states elderly people make up 12 percent of Vietnam’s population of 95 million. The rate is expected to rise to 17.9 percent in 2025 and 23.5 percent by 2050.
