A Letter to Vietnam Veterans From Green Beret Captain Don Bendell – Soldier of Fortune Magazine

Letter to Vietnam Veterans “Welcome home.”  We say that to each other, because many never greeted us when we returned from Vietnam. This letter was written for one reason only: If you are a Vietnam veteran, I simply want to say, “Thank you for risking your life to serve our nation in the cause of freedom.”  Over fifty-eight thousand of us did not make it home alive, but they gave America a legacy of honor and valor to carry forward. We who remain are the standard bearers for all Vietnam veterans. We must continue to live our lives in quiet dignity, social respectability, and try our best to be voices of reason and pillars of quiet strength in our respective communities. Why?

Veteran Spotlight: Sgt McCarthy

McCarthy served his country as a sergeant in the Army in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968.    His basic training was at Fort Dix, N.J., before he shipped out first to Alaska from McGuire Air Force Base.   We were drinking at a bar and this civilian who was working on the pipeline was bombed and said he wanted to go with us to Vietnam, said McCarthy, than laughed. We wrapped him in an overcoat and snuck him on the plane. . The pilot said he didn t have to pay for his flight over but had to pay for the return trip. It made the news.

How Operation Christmas, leaflets in North Korea and CIA pop put a creative twist on propaganda WedWednesday 23 updated WedWednesday 23 Soldiers in camouflage string up blue Christmas lights in a tree in the Colombian jungle. ( Print text only A decade ago, Jose Miguel Sokoloff came up with an audacious advertising campaign. The brief, which came directly from the Colombian military, was to win over hardened armed guerrillas in the jungle. His weapon of choice? Christmas lights. Soldiers in camouflage strung up bright blue lights in large trees at strategic points in the jungle, with a large sign directed at the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
