(Roland Balik/Air Force) Senior Air Force officials have insisted that the creation of a force of airmen with diverse backgrounds and experiences is crucial to adapting to the threats of the future. That’s why Air Education and Training Command, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, has moved forward with plans to increase diversity and inclusion. Over the past two years, AETC has implemented a number of programs and policy changes intended to draw women and underrepresented minorities into Air Force jobs, including rated (flight) career fields.

Achievers: Edmond North students receive scholarships to attend aviation university

Four students from the Edmond North High School Air Force Junior ROTC program have received scholarships to attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program this summer. Ulric Williams, Kyumbee Son, Ethan Panko and Will Beaman are four of 230 AFJROTC cadets around the world to receive the scholarship from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama. More than 1,340 cadets applied for one of the 230 scholarships. The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics, and flight hours required to potentially earn a private pilot license. The scholarship is valued at about $22,500.
