Whitsunday woman tries to vary no-alcohol bail condition

  Magistrate James Morton noted Ms Ward is facing multiple charges including public nuisance in a licensed premises - Airlie Beach Hotel, obstructing a police officer at Airlie Beach Hotel, assaulting police and wilful damage of police property. Mr Morton noted the offences were alleged to have occurred while Ms Ward was intoxicated. Ms Ward has previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. Ms Ward told the court she wanted the condition changed as she claimed police had approached her home and contacted her after hours on Facebook. As Ms Ward is working in hospitality consulting, she said the zero-alcohol condition had an impact.

The Whitsunday Sailing Club will host a family fun day in honour of Australia Day. The event will include mini learn-to-sail courses for adults and children, a sailing expo, stalls, live music and activities for children such as backyard cricket. Plans for new Airlie Beach bottle shop revealed

Premium Content Subscriber only The next step towards a new bottle shop in Airlie Beach is under way and could bring the number of alcohol outlets in the town to double digits. Plans show the 150sq m shop would fill a vacant building in the Mountain Valley Shopping Centre on Shute Harbour Rd near the Airlie Beach Vinnies. Airlie Beach Hotel Operations Queensland Pty Ltd have submitted a development application for a new bottle shop in Cannonvale. Picture: Supplied The shop would be open from 10am to 10pm. With three wine shelves and two beer shelves as well as a cold room and ice freezer, the proposed shop joins a raft of other bottle shops in the area.
