Barbados’ death toll from COVID-19 rose to 20 yesterday as a result of the passing of two Barbadians.
The first death was that of a 53-year-old female with a history of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). She died at Harrison Point where she had been a patient for three days, following a positive PCR test result.
Within hours, a 67-year-old man died at Enmore after being admitted there from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital the previous day. He too had a history of NCDs.
Minister of Health and Wellness, Jeffrey Bostic, extended condolences to the mourning families. He warned that every age group was vulnerable to the viral illness as the recent deaths were not limited to only senior citizens.
Health professionals addressing today s press conference on the management of COVID-19 in Barbados supported the choice of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine although it has not ben approved in some countries. They were also in support of the mass vaccination campaign with the goal of achieving herd immunity. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has advised that the Winston Scott Polyclinic, at Jemmotts Lane, St Michael, will close at 6 p.m. today and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The ministry thanks members of the public for their understanding. (BGIS)
