Manitoba community declares state of local emergency due to uncontrolled fire

  WINNIPEG The Municipality of North Cypress-Langford and the Town of Carberry have declared a state of local emergency due to an uncontrolled fire nearby. The fire, which is at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo, is estimated to be about 3,600 hectares in size. According to a news release from the municipality, a number of people and livestock have evacuated as a precaution. It said that it has notified everyone who needs to evacuate at this time. The municipality said that conditions are deteriorating and there is a possible risk of a breach of the fireguard northeast of CFB Shilo.

Article continues below advertisement ↴ Waterways will be busy this weekend as walleye and sauger combined season begins today.  The season starts every year on the third Saturday of May and runs until December 31 in Zones 4 and 5 (with some waterbody exceptions), primarily where Northwestern Ontario anglers fish.  Canadian residents with a Sport Fishing Licence may retain four walleye and sauger combined while those with Conservation Fishing Licences may only retain two in most parts of Zones 4 and 5. (Note the exceptions for water bodies, including the Winnipeg River and Shoal Lake) Those who fish on the Winnipeg River system, Rainy Lake, Rainy River, Seine River system should be aware that walleyes caught
