Thousands flock to the Colorado Convention Center to revel in All-Star weekend

Kendrick Gomez, 10, stands before a display honoring Jackie Robinson, the first black player to play in MLB, Friday, July 9, 2021, during the opening day of Play Ball Park at the Colorado Convention Center as part of the MLB All Star Game celebration. Gomez wears Robinson’s jersey number 42 on his baseball jersey. His father made him learn about Robinson and his role in baseball history before he could wear “42.” Gomez said it was “hard to believe” he was standing in front of Robinson’s jersey. The number 42 is retired in Major League Baseball in Robinson’s honor. (The Gazette, Christian Murdock)

Arenado on leaving Colorado: I haven t looked back once | ROME

The Jim Rome Show LISTEN LIVE July 01, 2021 - 3:37 pm Nolan Arenado is headed back to where it all started. The eight-time Gold Glover will return to Coors Field, where 136 of his 251 career homers have occurred, Thursday night when the Cardinals begin a four-game set against Arenado’s former team, the Colorado Rockies. One of the most decorated players in franchise history, it appeared Arenado would finish his career in Colorado after agreeing to an eight-year, $260-million extension in 2019. But obviously that’s not what happened as Arenado, fed up with losing (Colorado hasn’t won a playoff series since 2007), demanded a trade, which the Rockies honored by dealing him to St. Louis this offseason.
