Covid: Winchester district may now be free of virus

WINCHESTER district is potentially Covid-free for the first time in more than six months. The official Government shows the 14 areas of the district with two or fewer new cases in the seven days to April 21, marking them white on the map. Wednesday April 21 is the most recent day for which localised figures are available. The last two area with more than two cases over the weekend had been Whiteley, Knowle and Wickham and Winchester Central and South. It is unclear whether there are no cases in an area or just one or two. All 14 areas of the Winchester district are now marked white on the Government map

Two areas of Winchester still showing as Covid case clusters on map

Just TWO Covid clusters remain in Winchester - here s where JUST two places in the Winchester district are now recording three or more Covid-19 cases. Since Monday only six cases of coronavirus were recorded across the district, but in the seven days leading up to April 23 just nine cases were registered, down from 18 in the previous week. According to the latest data from the Government’s interactive map, up to April 18, there are two areas of Winchester still showing more than three cases – three is the lowest number needed to bring the cluster back on to the map. Those areas are Winchester Central and South and Winchester West.

NO Covid deaths in Winchester district for 50th day

FOR the 50th day, no Covid-related deaths have been reported in the Winchester district. Since the start if the first lockdown last spring 183 people have died within 28 days of a positive test. There have been no new ones since March 3. Covid-19 has been virtually eliminated across the district with today just two area with more than two cases in the last seven days: Winchester West and Winchester Central and South, In both area there have been four cases in the seven days to April 16, the most recent day for which localised statistics are available. The twelve other areas of the Winchester district have reported fewer than three cases in those seven days and are now marked white on the Government map.

Winchester city declared almost Covid-free

The last place in the city with more than two cases was Winchester West, the area that includes Fulflood and Weeke, but that has changed. The latest information relating to Covid-19 was updated this afternoon and reports only three cases in two other parts of the district: Whiteley, Knowle and Wickham and Denmead and Southwick with just three cases each in the seven days to April 9, the most recent day for which localised figures are available. Twelve other areas have reported fewer than three cases in those seven days and are now marked white on the Government map, see below:

The neighbourhoods in Winchester where coronavirus has been suppressed

Coronavirus: Infection rates have fallen across East Lancashire AT THE start of this year the Government’s interactive Covid map painted a very bleak picture of the number of cases in the Winchester district, but the picture is now much more favourable. In January, the district was a sea of purple, denoting one of highest rates of Covid infection of more than 400 and 799 per 100,000 people. Fortunately, Winchester was not the worst affected area of the country, as in the seven days to January 2, there were 618 cases in Winchester district for a rolling rate per 100,000 of 495, slightly below the UK average, compared to the previous seven days figures of 345 and a rolling 276.3.
