Cicada Coffee Bar brings piece of Vietnam to Cambridge

Maddy Wiener/Correspondent Wicked Local A hike in Vermont last summer brought Vinh Le back to summers in Vietnam as a child. Listening to the sound of chirping cicadas reminded him of the simple pleasures of picking mango and walking around with friends in his home province of Bac Ninh.  Determined to bring this same feeling of joy and happiness to his neighborhood in Cambridge, Le rented a space on Prospect Street to open a coffee bar with his wife Duong Huynh. He drew inspiration from the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese monk.  “He’s a mastermind of living in the moment,” said Le. “His theory is very simple. When you eat, you need to make sure you are eating. When you sit, you sit right here to enjoy the moment. When you walk, you need to make sure you are walking.”

Lincoln indie band Parking Lot Party to perform Lied Center livestream

From small beginnings performing at a Lincoln Southeast talent show to releasing their debut EP “Drive Thru,” the Lincoln indie band Parking Lot Party hopes to go nowhere but up. The band isn’t slowing down, as it’s performing for the Lied Center for Performing Arts’ Huskers in the Spotlight program Jan. 26 at noon via livestream on the Lied Center’s Facebook.  Four of the five members in the band are UNL students. The group has a sound its members describe as groovy indie-pop with modern guitar tones.   Vinh Le, student at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the bassist of the band, said the group was excited for the opportunity since it has been hard to get gigs due to the pandemic.

LFA 18 s Justin Rader: And, Just Like That

When Legacy Fighting Alliance featherweight Justin “Darth” Rader stepped into the cage at LFA 15 just five weeks ago, he was looking for nothing other than to string together four wins in a row. The world jiu-jitsu champion has been competing long enough to know that he can’t look past an opponent. After a three-round war on June 30, Rader picked up the win over Emmanuel Rivera. “It was a good fight, an excellent fight for me to have, and I was very happy with the way it turned out,” Rader told Combat Press. “It was a good fight in the sense that I did a lot of things good, and it also showed me a lot of places where I still have work and refinement to do. I’ve been very diligently trying to refine as many of the mistakes from that last fight as I could, because, obviously, for my next fight, I need to put it together better than I ever have before.”
