Vermont youth ages 12 to 15 can now sign up to receive the COVID vaccine.
The appointment system through the Health Department opened at 8:15 Thursday morning. Parents need to add their children to their own profile or create one specifically for their child to book their vaccination.
The CDC recommended opening vaccinations for this age group late Wednesday. Currently, Pfizer is the only COVID vaccine approved for 12-to-15-year-olds, and kids will need a two dose regimen, like adults.

In addition to regular sites, Vermont will host vaccination clinics at schools across the state. The locations will be open to students attending that school as well as those from nearby schools, independent schools, homeschoolers and the public.
For the first time in over five years, Winooski residents will have the chance to enjoy their city pool.
Myers Memorial Pool is slated to be open to the public on June 6, following its closure since the end of 2015 in order to complete longstanding renovation needs. It s been a long time come for Winooski residents, said Jenny Hall, recreation programs manager for the City of Winooski.
The Kenneth R. Myers Memorial Pool initially opened in 1972, serving for over four decades as an important venue for people to meet and engage with their neighbors, according to a fundraiser for the pool. The pool takes its name from the former member of the Winooski City Council.

South Burlington has the best public high school in Vermont, according to the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
In its annual list, the US News Best High Schools ranked around 17,860 public high schools after reviewing nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. The rankings came out this week and include familiar names in Chittenden County, as well as across the state.
Nationally the list pulls from public high schools as well as charter, magnet, and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused schools.
Although South Burlington High School tops the state s list, seven other local high schools make the ranking.

âTo get congratulations from all these people, teachers, family, friends . it feels great to be recognized in such a way,â said William Taggard, a junior at Brattleboro Union High School, who took first place, writing about changing the countryâs presidential election process.
âOur democracy has been under unprecedented pressure in recent months, culminating in the insurrection in our nationâs capital,â wrote Taggard. âFortunately, democracy and truth have prevailed. However, our current system leaves ample room for improvement: namely the Electoral College. We need to review the merits of the Electoral College and determine how best to protect our democratic process.â
