Akamai has reorganized its operations to strengthen its edge technology and $1 billion security business so that customers can securely take advantage of serverless computing.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based intelligent edge platform provider will launch its newly created Security Technology and Edge Technology business groups on March 1, both of which will be supported by a single global sales organization. Having a unified global sales organization will make it easier for customers and prospects looking to buy the full range of Akamai’s edge delivery and security offerings, the firm said.

Tenable has agreed to purchase cybersecurity startup Alsid for $98 million to help customers find and fix security weaknesses in Microsoft’s Active Directory in real time.
The Columbia, Md.-based vulnerability management firm said its proposed acquisition of Paris, France-based Alsid will allow organizations to discover new attack pathways and detect Active Directory attacks in real time. Alsid leverages dynamic threat scoring and complexity ratings to recommend remediations that don’t require the deployment of agents or the leveraging of privileged accounts, Tenable said.

SolarWinds MSP will be forced to find a new security leader this spring as it spins out from SolarWinds and becomes an independent company.
Vice President of Security Tim Brown said the original plan was for him to continue with SolarWinds MSP following the split, at which point the remote monitoring and management vendor will be known as N-Able. But following the massive hack of the Orion network monitoring platform, Brown said the decision was made to have him stay with SolarWinds proper and task SolarWinds MSP with finding a new CISO.

Secure access vendor Appgate plans to go public at a $1 billion valuation just a year after its formation by merging with a shell company.
Coral Gables, Fla.-based Appgate said becoming a publicly traded company will provide quick access to significant financial resources to accelerate growth, scale and go-to-market strategies. Appgate was spun out from data center vendor Cyxtera in January 2020, and expects to generate revenues of $40 million this year with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50 percent over the next half-decade.
