It said the Vinton Police Department officer had been sent to investigate an argument between two motorists parked on the shoulder of the Interstate 10 westbound entrance ramp from Louisiana Highway 108.
Odegar got out of her car and pointed a gun at the officer, according to the statement by Trooper First Class Derek Senegal. During the confrontation, the officer discharged his weapon striking Odegar, Senegal wrote.
State police, as is standard in shootings by local officers, are investigating the shooting. Vinton police are investigating the motorists dispute.
Early Tuesday, police in Berwick fatally shot a would-be carjacker, armed with what appeared to be a handgun but turned out to be a BB pistol, state police said.

Town of Vinton – Vinton, Va. - The Vinton Police Department tells 10 News that they responded to a call regarding a single vehicle crash at the Kroger Gas Station on Hardy Rd.
According to dispatch, once they arrived on scene the car was on fire.
They add this is an ongoing investigation and that the scene is clear at this time.

VINTON, La. (KPLC) - Two men from Orange, TX, have been arrested for attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in Vinton Monday.
According to Vinton police, Monday, April 5, at approximately 5:11 p.m., Vinton Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1400-block of Gum Cove Road for a shooting.
Police say once the officers arrived, they found the victim, a 25-year-old Sulphur man, shot in the abdomen. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital where he was last listed in stable condition.
