October 1, 1958 – The official start of NASA.
October 7, 1958 – NASA announces Project Mercury. The Mercury project’s objectives are to place a human spacecraft into orbital flight around Earth, observe human performance in such conditions and recover the human and the spacecraft safely.
April 9, 1959 – The Mercury Seven are introduced as the first US astronauts: Scott Carpenter, L. Gordon Cooper Jr., John H. Glenn Jr., Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom, Walter M. Schirra Jr., Alan B. Shepard Jr. and Donald K. “Deke” Slayton.

Lego recently launched its new NASA Space Shuttle Discovery set as a part of NASA s 40th anniversary celebration of the first Space Shuttle flight mission launched in April 1981.
The Lego Space Shuttle Discovery is made up of 2,354 pieces that are ideal for adult builders. There is also a complementary Hubble telescope payload with the Hubble Space Telescope Lego piece!

While on a hiatus from the Beatles in 1968, Ringo Starr tried squid, as a substitute in his fish and chips, while on a boat belonging to comedian Peter Sellers in Sardinia.
He wrote “I d like to be under the sea in an octopus garden in the shade.” Later, due to mounting hostility among the Beatles, he would admit that he had “just wanted to be under the sea, too.”
The sea has always been mysterious and a source of fascination. The wine business is not without its thirst for something new. Winemaker Josef Möth, of Austria had interest in the possibility of aging wine under water after reading about bottles recovered from shipwrecks from the 19th century.
