The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) voted on April 18 to approve a plan to reopen high schools for in-person instruction. The CTU Rules and Elections committee certified the ballot results of the addendum to their reopening agreement with Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
Members voted 83 percent in favor of ratifying the agreement.
The agreement secures safety standards for returning students to in-person high school, delivers protection of students and defends the working conditions of employees of CPS by including access to vaccination sites.
“Under the terms of our agreement, CPS has to provide for the mitigation strategies that currently keep people safe in our schools including six feet of social distancing, mask wearing, adequate ventilation with HEPA filtration which clears the air from each class at least five times an hour,” said CTU Communications Director Chris Geovannis.

ETHS scored wins in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1600-meter relay races and now owns the fastest time in the state of Illinois in all 3 races to date. Add a runnerup finish by the 3200 relay team and individual wins by Gabriella Calixte (300 hurdles) and Keira Tu (high jump) and the Wildkits earned a second place finish as a team in the 14-team field with 87 points, trailing only south suburban power Homewood-Flossmoor (166) and edging Whitney Young of Chicago (85).
Indiana has placed a heavy emphasis on the frontcourt with its offers in the class of 2022, and one of the first in the class to hear from the Hoosiers was Chicago product A.J. Casey.
Indiana offered Casey back in June of 2020, and since then assistant coach Kenya Hunter has transitioned to his primary point of contact.
Casey is a 4-star according to the 247Sports Composite. In the class of 2022 he is currently ranked No. 21 nationally, the No. 5 power forward, and the No. 1 player in Illinois. Although he hasn’t cut his list in any way, some of his top schools right now appear to be Illinois, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, Gonzaga, Indiana and Kansas.
