SASKATOON A late spring snowfall blanketed parts of northern Saskatchewan – and meteorologists say more is to come as cold and warm weather collide. Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Terri Lang said the record-breaking temperatures being experienced in the southern parts of the province have a hand in the snow seen up north. “Winds come up from the south, ahead of the storm across southern Saskatchewan. When the winds are coming from the north it is sucking down the really cold air from the north, so the clash of those two can really make for the really high snowfall amounts we did see,” said Lang.
“We believe the exploration is significantly underdone in Saskatchewan, but we see tremendous potential for gold, copper and battery metals. Having rare earth in Saskatchewan is, I think, a leg up for us,” said Searchlight Resources Chairman Alfred Stewart.
Searchlight Resources (TSXV:SCLT,OTC Pink:CNYCF) Chairman Alfred Stewart is happy to share why the company is excited and looking forward to 2021 after three years of dormancy in the mining industry.
Firstly, the company recently announced the completion of a drill program at the Henning-Maloney gold target within the Bootleg Lake gold project, located near the town of Creighton, Saskatchewan, 5 kilometers from Flin Flon. Stewart said, “We’ve basically discovered a brand-new gold zone close to a historic gold mine. So we’re very excited, we see a lot more potential around Henning-Maloney.”

Since the pandemic began, production at Cameco’s Cigar Lake mine has been suspended twice.
It shuttered in March 2020, shortly after the first COVID-19 case was reported in the province, and the on-site workforce was cut to 35 from around 300.
The mine restarted in the fall, but closed again in December. It reopened last month with what Gitzel described at the time as “enhanced safety protocols,” including distancing on flights to the remote site, medical-grade masks and on-site testing.
The first-quarter financial statement says its bottom line was affected by $33 million in additional care and maintenance costs from suspending the Cigar Lake mine’s production from December to April. All employees were paid during the suspension, a cost that was offset by $12 million from the Canadian Employment Wage Subsidy.
