Finally, something positive to come from the untimely passing of Harry Patterson.
One of Harry s ongoing passions was helping veterans and his family and friends have stepped up to match donations to the Veteran s Memorial Plaza at Lake Wichita up to $200,000. When the total goal of $400,000 is reached the Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee will officially rename the plaza in honor of Harry Patterson.
Among his many philanthropic efforts in the Wichita Falls area, veterans were always a high priority for Harry Patterson so this would truly be a fitting memorial to someone who has given so much to our community over the years.
The City of Wichita Falls announced a new program called the Wichita Falls Citizens Academy today.
According to their press release the Academy is designed to provide the residents of Wichita Falls an inside look at what goes on at our local City government.
Residents who take part in the Academy will learn the basic roles and functions of municipal government with tours, activities, and classes. Some of the topics to be covered include City Council roles and responsibilities; general City services like police, fire, and public works departments; community development; and city planning.
For those who want to learn more about how their city operates the Citizens Academy is a great way to gain insight and build relationships with City staff while learning about their responsibilities. It s also a great way to get involved with what s happening in Wichita Falls.

The FDA and CDC are calling for an immediate pause in the administering of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the federal government announced early Tuesday.
Federal officials say that six cases of a very rare but severe blood clot have been reported within two weeks of receiving the one-dose vaccine in the United States. All of the six people developing the blood clots were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman has died, reports say.
It s estimated that 6.8 million Americans have already received the Johnson & Johnson, and about 9 million more supplies shipped to vaccine sites throughout the country.
“We are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution,” Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the C.D.C., said in a joint statement. “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare.”
