This occupation dooms us to what we are seeing
The violent tragedy unfolding in Israel/Palestine is a vile stain on successive Israeli governments and the Palestinian Authority, compounded by Hamas, whose refusal to recognise the reality of Israel is an act of wilful, obsessive and destructive blindness.
Even in our local Jewish and Muslim communities, the pain, anger and fear we feel for our sisters and brothers in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, render us unable to empathise with the same emotions experienced by the other. This is not to equate the suffering on each side, simply to acknowledge it.

As women across Victoria experience high levels of depression and anxiety, chief executives from the stateâs 12 womenâs health services will call on Treasurer Tim Pallas to include a large sum for gender-specific mental health services in the May 20 budget.

The Victorian Government is seeking feedback on the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide – but is calling on the Commonwealth to give Veterans and their families more time to have their say.
Minister for Veterans Affairs Shaun Leane today opened consultation on Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission, which will provide a vital and long-overdue opportunity to hear from the Veteran community and to reflect on their wishes in fixing a broken system.
A dedicated email address – commonwealthroyalcommission.tor@dffh.vic.gov.au – has been established to canvas the views of Veterans, their families and the broader public.

A 30-bed acute mental health facility is expected to open in Epping in 2023 as part a state government plan to fix Victoria’s mental health system.
The 2020-21 state budget included funding for the stand-alone facility at Northern Hospital, as part of the government’s $868.6 million spend on mental health services.
Acting Premier and Minister for Mental Health James Merlino released designs for the new facility last week.
The Epping facility is one of four being built across the state, providing 120 new mental health beds. New facilities will also be built at Geelong, Parkville and St Albans.
