Ski cross world champion Näslund among those added to Sweden s Beijing 2022 team

Thursday, 20 May 2021 The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) has announced the addition of seven more athletes to its team for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, meaning 16 have now had their places at the Games confirmed. Four ski cross specialists and three Alpine skiers have joined the team, most notably women s ski cross world champion Sandra Näslund who finished fifth at the Sochi 2014 Games aged 17, before placing fourth at Pyeongchang 2018. Also part of the squad are ski cross brothers Erik and David Mobärg, with the former coming into good form last season when he finished third in the men s competition at the World Championships.

World Champs Idre Fjäll 2021 – Ski Cross preview Freestyle 09 Feb 2021 ©GEPA: ski cross returns to Idre Fjäll for the FIS Cross World Championships 2021 It wasn’t an easy path to get here, but the world’s best ski cross athletes have made it to Sweden and are ready to get out of the start gate at the premier event of the 2020/21 season – the Idre Fjall 2021 FIS Ski Cross World Championships. Due to the development of the covid-19 pandemic and the implemented measures by the Chinese health authorities and government, the originally scheduled FIS Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships in Zhangjiakou (CHN) had to be cancelled earlier this season. However, the disappointment of that news was soon wiped away when the organisers in Idre stepped up to offer a solution for the ski and snowboard cross competition at their iconic venue.

The first of the Idre Fjäll TRE races was a special one, as it was a never-before-seen 600m straight sprint course, which consisted of a whole lot of jumps and rollers. One would think that such a course would be a sealed deal when getting out of the start gate in first position, but what we witnessed today was quite the opposite. Those 600 meters were nothing short of excitement and pure fighting from start to finish.
