People living next to the Dunyeats Road Post Office had opposed its conversion into a Costcutter store over fears it could become a “24-hour drinking den”. But a BCP licensing sub-committee agreed to grant the licence last month saying there was no “substantial evidence” to suggest potential issues. Although the decision was made on January 21, it has only recently been made public through the publishing of the minutes of the meeting.

How much council tax residents will be charged in BCP in 2021

An aerial view of Christchurch merging with Bournemouth, and Poole COUNCIL tax charged by BCP Council is to rise by an average of 1.55 per cent this year – a figure it claims is the lowest in the country. Proposals within its draft budget include a £50 million pandemic recovery fund and £10 million to improve education provision for children with extra needs. Councillor Drew Mellor, its leader, said the plan allowed it to “invest significantly” without putting the burden on ratepayers. For the first time since it was formed in 2019, BCP Council will charge the same level of council tax in each of the three towns.

Claims Broadstone corner shop bid would create drinking den

Broadstone Post Office. Picture: Google Maps/ StreetView THE conversion of Broadstone Post Office into a corner shop would create a “24-hour drinking den”, according to opponents of the scheme. A licence to sell alcohol from a new Costcutter store as late as 11pm every day will be considered by councillors next week after it attracted objections from a dozen people. Concerns have been raised that extending the opening hours of the Dunyeats Road building would lead to “considerable increases” in nuisance and anti-social behaviour. The application was submitted to BCP Council by Kumarasamy Uthayatharan in November as part of the conversion of the Post Office into a Costcutter shop.
