Amanda Bussey was clearly not going to allow rainy weather to dampen her joy. She was a star ready to be cheered. As mother Julia Bussey slowly steered their car onto the red carpet of Jacksonville s 2021 Night to Shine s drive-thru celebration Friday, which was lined with wet yet boisterous volunteers, Amanda stood up through the open roof, danced, threw her arms into the air and soaked in the hoorays, woo-hoos and applause. She later giggled and smiled at the memory. I rode with my mom! She was crying while we went down the red carpet, she said. I danced the whole way.

Photos from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department show a captain harnessing the man and as crews on the bridge pulled him to safety. The driver had gotten out of his car, which was underwater. He was taken to the hospital, but amazingly only had minor injuries after the 35-foot fall in his vehicle.
