As mother Julia Bussey slowly steered their car onto the red carpet of Jacksonville s 2021 Night to Shine s drive-thru celebration Friday, which was lined with wet yet boisterous volunteers, Amanda stood up through the open roof, danced, threw her arms into the air and soaked in the hoorays, woo-hoos and applause.
She later giggled and smiled at the memory. I rode with my mom! She was crying while we went down the red carpet, she said. I danced the whole way.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The annual Night to Shine prom for people in Jacksonville with special needs took place Friday afternoon with new safety precautions.
Jacksonville-native Tim Tebow started the event in 2015. Since then, it’s fanned out across the globe, with hundreds of thousands of VIP guests and volunteers.
While the pandemic has made many of the proms virtual, the Jacksonville committee is continuing the tradition with an in-person, drive-thru red carpet Friday afternoon. Masks are required.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville firefighters saved a 27-year-old man in a dramatic rescue Saturday evening in the St. Johns River, hoisting him out of the water after his car fell over the Dames Point Bridge.
Photos from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department show a captain harnessing the man and as crews on the bridge pulled him to safety. The driver had gotten out of his car, which was underwater. He was taken to the hospital, but amazingly only had minor injuries after the 35-foot fall in his vehicle.

ATLANTA – Demonstrators set up outside the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on Wednesday to show their anger toward the results of the Senate runoffs and the presidential election.
“We the people are now being told to sit down and shut up after we have watched the most blatant act of fraud ever committed in our state election,” said Chester Doles, a demonstrator.
Doles and other self-proclaimed patriots had a list of demands for lawmakers to overturn the results. Several protesters wore tactical gear.
