Motown event Summer Soul in the Park announces Barrow Park return this summer

A MOTOWN and Northern Soul event will return to Barrow Park this summer. Summer Soul in the Park is returning in full force this July with funds going towards Action for Children. The event will return to Barrow Park Bandstand on Sunday July 18 and admission is completely free. All the DJs will be playing the best of ‘Soul Music’ from vinyl only - from Stax to Motown to Northern and Modern Soul. Event-goers are encouraged to bring their own picnics, chairs, blankets and gazebos. Festival organiser Brian George said: “The DJ’s spend hundreds of pounds on their vinyl collections, so it is well worth coming down, and relive some of the memories from the FCYC, Legion, Penny Farthing, Torch, Wheel, Wigan Casino,and the Mecca.”

Photgraphy, Film, Words, Music, Design, Doodles & DJ Welcome back again to the Bluffers Guide, and this time we re picking up the pace from Soul and looking at Northern Soul, a genre that has its own amazing energy. I think of my own Da, and how important his co-workers were in the factory, he couldn t hold a note that fella. He loved music and just like the factory and mine workers in the North of England; they loved uptempo soul music. We re talking about a specific time in the early 70s in places like Manchester s Twisted Wheel, Wigan Casino, even the torch, Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent.
