How Technology Will Continue To Disrupt the Aviation Industry

How Technology Will Continue To Disrupt the Aviation Industry Chris Rogerson, Vice President, Inmarsat Aviation Introduction There are many inflight technologies that we take for granted today. Twenty years ago, individual seat-back screens, inflight connectivity, and even mood lighting were perceived as novel innovations; but now in the last ‘teen’ year of the century, these are increasingly seen as part and parcel of the travel experience.  As we make headway into the next decade, Asia Pacific is expected to see the first truly digitally native generation, Generation Z (born between 1997-2012) become the largest group of air passengers of over 450 million, surpassing the Millennials by 41 per cent, according to “Sky High Economics - Chapter Three: Capitalising on Changing Passenger Behaviour in a Connected World”, a recent study from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in association with Inmarsat.

Mindfulness benefits hinge on who s around

When it comes to the success of mindfulness-based meditation programs, the instructor and the group are often more significant than the type or amount of meditation practiced. For people who feel stressed, anxious, or depressed, meditation can offer a way to find some emotional peace. Structured mindfulness-based meditation programs, in which a trained instructor leads regular group sessions featuring meditation, have proved effective in improving psychological well-being. But the precise factors for why these programs can help are less clear. The new study teases apart the different therapeutic factors to find out. Mindfulness-based meditation programs often operate with the assumption that meditation is the active ingredient, but less attention is paid to social factors inherent in these programs, like the group and the instructor, says lead author Willoughby Britton, an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University.
