Christopher Bryant swept the 182 weight class to remain unbeaten on the season and claim a sectional championship on Saturday in Palmyra. He will be joined in Independence for the state tournament on March 10 by Phasakorn Cunningham and Pedro Garduno.
“We had a good day,” said Missouri Military Academy head coach Tom Allen, who brought seven wrestlers to the Class 1 Section 1 tournament.
Bryant has been a handful for opponents all season, going 21-0. On Saturday he took down Riley Barnes of Hallsville by fall at 2:59. He then squared off against Artez May from Lift for Life Academy in a more demanding match.

NEW MADRID For Valle Catholic High School wrestler Joseph Flieg, not being able to compete during the postseason last year has served as motivation.
That’s according Warrior head coach Jake Gegg.
Flieg, who transitioned from the 126- to 120-pound class this year, won both of his matches by fall this past Saturday earning a gold medal at his new weight.
“That was big for Joseph,” Gegg said. “He was motivated, and worked hard in the offseason. He had a good chance to qualify for state (last year).”
Flieg improved to 28-9 on the season, and he helped the Warriors to a third-place team finish at the Class 1 District 1 tournament at New Madrid County Central High School.
