That’s tough to do when you walk in to the sweet smells of this Roanoke ice cream shop. Owner, Jason Kiser, gets to smell it all each day.
“I think the first thing you notice when you walk into our shop is the smell of the waffle cones.”
I tried to make a waffle cone, with the supervision of Kiser, who was a little too generous to me.
“You’re cut out for it alright. This is good!”

Texas Monthly looks a little different this year. Instead of the usual list of 10 establishments, food editor Pat Sharpe focuses on favorite takeout dishes and drinks from across the Lone Star State, along with spotlighting three of the year s most exciting new openings. In total, the article covers 30 restaurants across seven regions, divided into categories such as starters and sides, sandwiches, entrees, sweets, and cocktails. All offer to-go. To be eligible for the list, establishments must have opened between December 1, 2019 and December 1, 2020.

The Raleigh location boasts many similarities to its sister restaurant in Winterville, North Carolina, including a detached pit house.
North Carolina pitmaster Sam Jones announced the debut of his second location of Sam Jones BBQ, which will officially opened its doors and dining room on Tuesday, February 16 in Raleigh, NC. The restaurant is located at 502 Lenoir Street and marks Sam’s first foray into the Triangle market.
Sam Jones BBQ is rooted in the tradition of North Carolina whole hog-style barbecue that third generation pitmaster Sam Jones has known his entire life. Since his teenage years, Sam worked with his family s acclaimed barbecue mecca, Ayden, NC’s Skylight Inn, before opening the first location of Sam Jones BBQ in neighboring Winterville, NC with business partner Michael Letchworth in 2015.
