A Never-Before-Documented Flower Blooms on One of World s Rarest Trees, Hopeful Sign For a Comeback

A Never-Before-Documented Flower Blooms on One of World’s Rarest Trees – A Hopeful Sign For a Comeback Cassidy Moody, Missouri Botanical Garden In a greenhouse in Missouri, a tree listed as critically endangered produced a flower which had never been recorded before by science in the perfect metaphor for the species’ chances of survival. The botanists caring for it believe there’s no question they can save the tree since collecting pollen from this flower, as they can now cross-pollinate its thirty-strong sapling neighbors to restore genetic diversity. Karomia gigas is a member of the mint family, and is also related to oregano, rosemary, and thyme. It grows wild only in East-Central Africa, in Tanzania, and in the past in Kenya. It’s so unknown there’s no common name for it in English, Swahili, or any other African language.

$300,000 Rivers to the Sea Enhancements at The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque

$300,000 Rivers to the Sea Enhancements at The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque The Rivers to the Sea Gallery at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium premiered in 2010 with the opening of the organization’s Diamond Jo National River Center. Updated in 2016 to include a stingray touch tank experience and aquariums representing delta habitats, the space has recently received a large boost toward a third phased update to the permanent exhibit space. The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust has awarded the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium $300,000 to support the design-build, fabrication, and installation of new permanent enhancements. Funds will be used specifically to support new aquatic animals and the systems necessary to house the animals, including quarantine facilities and life support systems. Funds will also be used for general construction and related capital expenses.

No previous experience with Bison is required and there will be training in the Netherlands where the one-tonne animals have already been successfully introduced to several nature reserves.
