Parlor Room in Northampton receives $10,000 grant from national group
Updated May 18, 2021;
The Parlor Room in Northampton has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Live Music Society, an organization committed to giving $2 million in grants in its first two years of operation to support the live music ecosystem around the United States.
The Parlor Room was one of just 16 independent music venues across the nation to receive a grant between $10,000 and $50,000.
In 2020, the LMS provided a lifeline to small, independent music venues that were forced to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing more than $800,000 in grants.
With the first two rounds of awards now complete, LMS will have dispersed over $1.5 million, with a third round of grants coming this fall.
The music industry took a big hit in 2020. Will it roar back in 2021? It took a decade, dozens of artists, and hundreds of volunteers to transform the Four Peaks music festival from a bootstrap local gathering into a bona fide concert destination. But it took just one rogue virus a few weeks to bring it all crashing down in late March. That s when Stacy Koff, festival founder and organizer, made the decision to cancel plans for the 2020 edition, a festival that was set to be bigger and more ambitious than any previous iteration. Gary Calicott Revelers cut the proverbial rug at Bend s Four Peaks music festival, which drew more than 2,000 fans in 2019. The festival was canceled in June and organizers expect a smaller gathering in 2021, if at all.
