AKRON Marlington High School graduate Amy Slater Cole has joined Summit Academy Management as executive director of human resources.
“Amy brings a rich background of professional experience to her position at Summit Academy Management,” said Summit Academy Management CEO John Guyer.
Cole served as the director of human resources for the City of Canton for the past eight years. In this role she was responsible for overseeing the administration of workers compensation, health benefits, salary administration and employee relations for more than 1,000 employees in the municipality. Concurrently, from 2015 to 2017, Cole also served as an adjunct professor for Walsh University for the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences.
MentorStark aims to strengthen area mentoring programs
Laurie Moline knows there are numerous opportunities for Stark County children and young adults to find mentors but she wants them to know that, too.
The importance of relationships and community connections was noted in a 2018 Northeast Ohio Youth Health Survey conducted by local agencies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after an alarming increase in youth suicides. One of the things that they talked about was promoting connectedness, Moline said. A lot of our young people did not feel connected.
Moline founded MentorStark in April 2020 after working with area youth in other roles. She wants mentorstark.org to be a hub for people to learn more about how they can find a mentor or be a mentor.
I couldn t get enough of it, he said.
Later, as a teenager at Hoover High School, his future goal was clear-cut: I had no intention but to be a rock star.
Harris, now 39, never became a rock star, although he did play in a few area bands and still records music in his basement.
But last June he achieved his longtime goal of opening a record shop, Dr. Frankenstein s House of Wax, where he sells albums, used and new, by a who s who of rock n rollers. This is something I wanted to do for the last three or four years, Harris said. His machinist job at a shop in Stow had slowed to a crawl due to COVID-19 I was pushing a broom eight hours a day, he said so he decided to take the plunge.

Wilson graduates from Walsh with honors
Jonathan K. Wilson graduated from Walsh University in December 2020 with a Bachelors of Science in Education Degree.
He finished magna cum laude with an overall 3.8 GPA. He will continue his studies in January 2021 at Walsh University and pursue a masters degree in Healthcare Management.
Wilson is a 2017 graduate of United Local High School and the son of Sarah Wilson and grandson of Kim and Gaye Wilson, all of Hanoverton.
