Expedite process to settle forest right claims: Sattari panel

Expedite process to settle forest right claims: Sattari panel Valpoi: Stating that the state government is apathetic towards the rights of the forest dwellers, Sattari Bhumiputra Samiti (SBS) has called upon the government to sort out the land ownership issue of Sattari villagers at the earliest.  Speaking at a press conference at Valpoi on Sunday, a delegation of SBS said that the forest rights committee (FRC) procedure to settle land rights is not acceptable. Ganpat Zarmekar while addressing the media alleged that some political leaders are trying to mislead the people to undertake the forest rights committee (FRC) procedures to sort out this issue adding, “If this procedure is followed, it would create problems in the future to tackle the process in court. People should stay alert of such leaders who are misleading the people for their political benefit.”

Planned IIT Goa campus to relocate after village protests

Planned IIT Goa campus to relocate after village protests A permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the western Indian state of Goa has hit a roadblock as the government abandoned its plan to build the campus at Melaulim village in the face of widespread protests from area residents and a major clash with police. The Goa government on 15 January announced that the new IIT campus would be shifted to another, as yet undecided, location in the state. But the events this month could also jeopardise Goa’s bid to become a higher education hub in the country.
