ALBANY State legislators could meet for a rare December session early next week to extend and strengthen New York’s eviction moratorium.
While Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo recently pledged to extend the current eviction moratorium beyond its Jan. 1 expiration, housing advocates have criticized that measure for its patchwork protection for renters in New York, and have called for a blanket moratorium to prevent any evictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

ALBANY The debate over legalizing marijuana for adult, recreational use in New York has been brewing for the last two years after Democrats took control of the state Legislature, but disagreements on the issue coupled with a global pandemic have kept it out of reach for lawmakers.

ALBANY The county recorded one of its worst days yet during the coronavirus pandemic, setting records for new cases, hospitalizations and five more residents dead from the disease.
The news comes as public health officials continue to be concerned of an even larger surge in cases due to people gathering for the holidays, the number of available hospital beds in the region shrinks and the percentage of people testing positive rises. According to state data, the region s seven-day rolling average for positive tests at 6.3 percent is fourth-highest in the state.

TROY Eddy Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center now has one of the deadliest coronavirus outbreaks among residential facilities in Rensselaer County.
The county announced Wednesday night that an 82-year-old woman from Eddy Heritage died after contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. She is the 10th victim in recent weeks from that facility on Tibbits Avenue, which is run by St. Peter s Health Partners.
